Hi, I'm AppleG5, I installed Windows Vista on my eMachines PC a few weeks ago, and I need help.
Windows Vista cannot detect my CD Drive!!!
I looked in device manager and saw that the DVD/CD-ROM Drive: LITE-ON COMBO SOHC-4832K ATA Device had the following problem: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
I checked windows update, no luck. I tried updating the driver, nada. I don't know what is wrong!! Please help. Thank you SO MUCH in advance for any help.

help me!
Ok, I found the Cdrom.inf file in C:\Windows\inf. I read it first, and then I right clicked and pressed install. then it says "Instalation Failed." now what do I do??
Make Sure You BACKUP and Save This Key: "{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}" 1.)Open regedit (Start > Run > Type Regedit) 2.)Browse to the following:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] UpperFilters (Delete This Entry) LowerFilters (Delete This Entry)
3.)Delete the entries for UpperFilters and LowerFilters (If you don't have one of them that's ok) 4.)Exit regedit and reboot.
I have done like you said, but it still doesn't work.

What error code are you recieving when you go to "Device Manager"?
Ok, Firstly do the following
1. go to "Device Manager" 2. Locate your CD/DVD Device 3. Right Click on your CD/DVD Device and select "Uninstall" from the context menu.
Do not scan for hardware changes just leave it unistalled.
Then do the following if the registry key(s) re-appeared in the registry.
1.)Open regedit (Start > Run > Type Regedit) 2.)Browse to the following:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] UpperFilters (Delete This Entry) LowerFilters (Delete This Entry)
3.)Delete the entries for UpperFilters and LowerFilters (If you don't have one of them that's ok) 4.)Exit regedit and reboot.
Then this should work out just fine for you.... Let me know if it doesnt.
Thank you so much! I've encountered the same problem (at the same time) as AppleG5 , and followed your clear instructions. Success ensued. (mine is: Toshiba A200 1MB-NOTEBOOK)
I wish you more good deeds in the future:)

Hi AppleG5. I had the same prob with my Acer T180 with Vista Home Premium. Go to support sight < http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/kb/314060 > When the site opens, print the pages off and then follow the instructions on the page, which will tell you how to get into the registry and delete the Upper and Lower Filter, which is causing the drive not to work. It sure worked for me. -- OAP (Old Abandoned Person)

I have flight simulator 2004 installed on Vista, but every time I start flight simulator, the bluescreen appears, the computer performs a memory dump and restarts. Please help me as I have spent loads of money on add-ons for fs9 but now can't use them!!
PLEASE PLEASE HELP!
Cameron
FS 2004 works for me. Is Windows Vista a Clean Installation or upgrade? Do you have the latest video drivers from the video card manufacturer? Is your video card supported in windows Vista? Are you overclocking etc?

Cameron,
You may need to go back to XP. Vista being a beta is pretty much guaranteed not to work with some stuff and for most of us it is exactly what we want to use :-)
